Princeland, named after Queen Victoria's consort Prince Albert, was a proposed colony/state of Australia created out of the western part of Victoria and the south-eastern part of South Australia. The proposed capital was to be Mount Gambier with Portland as the main port of the state. The movement for a new colony/state began in the early 1860s with Edward Henty leading The West Victorian Separation League. A petition was sent to Queen Victoria and rejected on the grounds that permission of both South Australia and Victoria would have been required.
